When I first heard about the shooting in Minneapolis, I couldn’t have imagined what happened and what followed… the videos, the immediate attempt by the Trump administration to control the narrative, the peaceful protests and ICE doubling down, escalating an already tragic situation. The lying and inhumanity of the Trump administration has become its calling card. We can never let ourselves accept this deviant behavior – our country is better than that.
As an artist, I knew I had to say/do something. Leave it to JD Vance to provide the inspiration – he literally couldn’t bring himself to use Renee Good’s name, calling Renee “that woman”. I can’t for the life of me understand how a human could go that low, then again, that’s JD. You own this MAGA. Anyway, I felt that JD’s response spoke volumes to the inhumanity of the Trump administration, so that was the lens I had when writing the song “Renee Is Her Name”.
